Step 1: Before you start configuring your router, you need to collect some information that will be needed when you start configuring your LAN connection. You're going to need to write some information down, so grab a pen and paper. Note: Where you see instructions that tell you to type in something, do not include the quotation marks around the word. They are simply there to let you know what to type in.
- Click on the Windows "Start" Button
- Click on "Run..."
- Type "command" or "cmd" in the box after the word "Open:".

- When the command window pops up, type in "ipconfig /all"

- Write down the IP address, subnet mask, default gateway, DHCP server, and DNS servers. You'll need these later.

- Type in "exit" after the "C:\>" prompt and press Enter. This closes the command window.
O.K. Now were ready to configure the router's DHCP server and figure out what IP address range we want to use for creating static IP addresses.
